Essai is a small furniture company based in Montreal. We develop furniture somewhere where coherence and playfulness meet. The making process is at the core of our design philosophy. We believe good furniture should be somehow accessible and the best way to achieve that while maintaining quality is rigorous design. We aim for simplicity, yet our furniture is the results of a lot of trials and error in order to deliver the atmosphere we want to share with the world.

Same, Same

A good idea is one from which you can squeeze a lot of juice. The idea behind the Same, Same collection was to develop a geometry that would work for multiple products. By doing so we were able to grow our range of product faster and this approach really helps with the flow of production in a small scale shop. Same shape, but different function. Same, same, but different.

All/Toute

The path to design a chair is one with a lot compromise. Every little details that you decide on have a real direct impact on the cost of the chair. The All/Toute chair is a trial in making an accessible chair, both money-wise and look-wise, that is still, comfortable, strong yet light. The chair is also flat pack and stackable. It will be launched this fall. Also available with an upholstered seat and in a counter or bar height version.
